The Advanced course allows you to sample from different types of diving activities and conditions, while under the supervision and guidance of an experienced instructor, to broaden your spectrum and increase your confidence and independence as a recreational diver. In order to start the course, the candidate must already be a certified Open Water diver.
The course consists of 5 Adventure dives over a 2-3 day period and is very much about diving! It does not contain the same amount of theory as the Open Water course does, this is all about learning by doing!
Currently, Deep is a mandatory part of the course, leaving four Adventure dives to complete your course! The Advanced Open Water Diver license results in a qualification to dive down to 30 meters, at night and generally welcomes you to the next level of scuba diving.
The Deep Adventure Dive is the core dive of the Advanced Course. As you learned during your Open Water course, there are several factors to keep in mind and rules to follow in order to dive safely and happily. As we learn to dive deeper, there is new knowledge to gain and procedures to observe, to do the same. With our instructors by your side, you will be prepared and barely feel the transition into the deeper waters!
Navigation is the adventure dive about skills of knowing where you are and finding your way. It may seem like magic to you when your Divemaster takes you on a long dive and finishes exactly back where you started. With the Navigation Dive, and the continued use of the navigation skills you learn during the course, you will gain a lot of confidence in your location.
The purpose of this adventure dive is to develop a new level of understanding of what buoyancy is, and what affects it. After an in-depth briefing on the topic, we set to work! On the dive, we will work our way through a range of different exercises to work on your buoyancy control as well as air consumption. This is an adventure dive that many students describe as especially rewarding and developing, and we could not agree more. Better buoyancy control means better dives!
Here in the Gilis, we are fortunate to have a selection of dive sites which are perfect for drift diving. If you have never done it before you will probably find it quite exciting! Skills and theory on current checks, negative entries, reef hook use, different buddy procedures, reading the dive site and surface marker buoy deployment are all covered, if you choose to have this as a part of the Advanced course.
This is one of the more popular options and it´s not difficult to see why. Compared to your previous training this is a new and exciting experience! You will be descending as the sun sets, floating weightless in the dark, watching the reefs late shift get down to business whilst learning about light handling and signaling, the nocturnally active species as well as adapted buddy procedures and entry/exit techniques.
Once dropped in the sea things tend to stay lost. If you choose this adventure dive as a part of you Advanced course we will show you some of the techniques for locating items and bringing them back to the surface.
During this dive, you will learn about composition, camera care, use of light, framing, red balance and much more. We will also teach you some extra buoyancy skills required to significantly improve your underwater photos.
This adventure dive covers the importance of planning, how to safely conduct a boat dive, a variation of suitable entry- and exit techniques, the differences between shore- and boat diving, as well as standard safety surface procedures that will help your diving worldwide.
The procedures for diving on wrecks can vary considerably from reef diving, mainly because of the potential overhead environment. The Wreck Adventure Dive will highlight the most important safety aspects whilst you experience one of two wrecks around the Gilis.
We will explain the advantages of diving with Nitrox and how to calculate your increased bottom time with a dive computer. After the theory and having learned how to analyze your tank, you will breathe nitrox for a full dive. Your first dive on mixed gas!
NOTE! If you wanted to get certified as a Nitrox Diver the same time, and not just try it out,
you could get these two licenses at the same time by adding some theory and an exam for an extra cost of 1,800,000 IDR (see price list).
