Divemaster Course on Gili Air

At Next Level Scuba we have an extraordinary Divemaster program
that doesn´t just settle
for teaching you the minimum course requirements,
we take you beyond that. We take you to the Next Level!

Your Divemaster Training (DMT)

Once you have arrived and settled in we will create an individually adapted course plan,
based on your current level, desired time frame, and specific needs.
You will be assigned a mentor from our instructor team, who will oversee your progress
throughout the course and help maintain consistency.

The first required achievement to start the Divemaster course is 40 logged dives. If you do not have the required number of dives you will complete them here on the island, while you get started on the theory, refining your diving skills, practicing swimming, etc.

When those 40 dives have been completed, it´s time to start your Divemaster training, your DMT!

You will start by accompanying the members of our professional team while they are teaching and guiding, to see their individually adapted approaches and techniques, to best find your own style
of teaching.

By helping the instructors and divemasters with qualified divers and real students, from introduction dives to Rescue Diver courses, you will gain experience and pick up a wealth of knowledge that you cannot learn from any manual.

Whilst doing this you will take on new challenges, in the form of knowledge reviews, skill circuits, swim tests and a wide range of workshops and lectures.

During your weeks as a Divemaster Trainee, you will learn and master all the different aspects
of briefing, guiding and taking care of divers, where we place a strong emphasis
on gaining practical experience, both on land and in water with real-life/dive situations.

Having built experience and confidence you will then begin to conduct supervised briefings and guiding on various courses and in time finishing your theory, lectures and exams to finally become
a signed off PADI Divemaster or an SSI Dive Control Specialist!

As you can see there´s quite a bit of work to be done, but also a lot of fun to be had!

Divemaster Course content

All of our courses leave room for flexibility. They often need to be adapted to the local environment,
to the individual student, to a requested time frame and the student flow of the dive center.
So no Divemaster training will be the same, but there are a standardized set of requirements that must be met, regardless of who/where/when you do it.

As mentioned above, we have chosen not to simply settle at that!
When doing a course with Next Level scuba, we opt to go above and beyond the minimum requirements in order to create the best possible diver we can, for their level of training.
And the Divemaster is definitely no exception!

Below, we have listed the standardized training requirements that we will cover during your Divemaster training, in addition to this our senior instructors hold teaching sessions on the more complex subjects of your theory, like physics, physiology and decompression theory.
You will learn about the psychology behind the teaching, about marine life and the potential injuries that they can cause, about sales and equipment, plus lots more in our strive to create an all-rounded, capable and passionate Divemaster!

Recommendations

We recommend our divemaster trainees to spend as long time as possible with us,
to gain the maximum from the course by diving and teaching alongside our experienced instructors and divemasters. Even when the performance requirements have been met, our candidates are encouraged to continue gaining experience. And while the diving environment around The Gili Islands generally offers very good visibility and warm water all year round, it is however quite dynamic and has depth, which enables our divemaster candidates to gain further experience with currents- and deep diving, not just “cocktail diving” conditions. So why wouldn´t you stay around?!

In regards to the time frame, for the training itself, we would recommend approximately 8 weeks, even if both shorter and longer courses are possible to fit individual needs.

As a Divemaster trainee, you are highly recommended to have your own mask, fins, surface marker, and a dive computer, as these are the essentials in the diving world and make your experience much easier. If you do not already have these items we have a wide range of equipment available for you and as a DMT you will receive a 15% discount off all retail purchased through the shop!
